These instructions will show you how to change the default SMTP port used with your email account.<\/strong>These instructions should apply to most versions of OS X Apple Mail.<\/em>You may need to speak with your ISP (Internet Service Provider) to determine which custom port will work on their network.<\/em><\/section>\n

Step 1<\/h1>\n

First open the Mail preferences by clicking on \u201cMail\u201d in the upper left corner (by the Apple Menu) and then select \u201cPreferences\u201d.<\/p>\n

Step 2<\/h1>\n

Next you will need to choose the account you want to edit from the list on the left (you may only have one and it will be selected by default).<\/p>\n

  1. Click on the \u201cAccounts\u201d icon at the top of the window.<\/li>\n
  2. Choose the \u201cAccount Information\u201d tab.<\/li>\n
  3. At the bottom of this window will be the \u201cOutgoing Mail Server\u201d drop down menu.\"Mac<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/section>\n

    Step 3<\/h1>\n

    Click on the drop down menu and select \u201cEdit SMTP Server List\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

    Step 4<\/h1>\n

    At the top of this window will be the available outgoing mail servers.<\/p>\n

    1. Note that there may only be one server listed. Make sure to select the correct one for the account you wish to edit if there are multiple.<\/li>\n
    2. Change the radio button at the bottom so that \u201cUse Custom Port\u201d is selected.<\/li>\n
    3. Enter the port number that your ISP has suggested for use.<\/li>\n
    4. Make any other changes recommended by your service provider for use with the custom port.\"Mac<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/section>\n

      Step 5<\/h1>\n

      Click OK<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

      Step 6<\/h1>\n

      Click \u201cSave Changes\u201d if prompted when closing the Preferences window or when selecting another account to make changes to.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n
